Hanging Bell with Om Mani Padme Hum Mantra No. 2 12.5 cm

The Hanging Bell with Om Mani Padme Hum Mantra No. 2 12.5 cm is a metal bell in a gold, brass-like colour and a traditional Eastern shape. Its rim is shaped into wavy "petals" like a lotus flower, there is a ring at the top for hanging, and the body bears the cast characters of the Buddhist mantra 唵嘛呢叭咪吽 — "Om Mani Padme Hum". A clapper hangs inside, so the bell rings with the slightest movement. Height about 12.5 cm, diameter about 9.5 cm, weight about 310 g.

Bell No. 2 is compact and versatile: it is clearly heard in a flat and suits a front door, hallway or meditation corner.

The mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum"

"Om Mani Padme Hum" is the best-known Buddhist mantra, the mantra of compassion of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. It is often translated as "O, the jewel in the lotus": the lotus symbolises purity, and the jewel wisdom and kindness. The mantra is carved on prayer wheels, stones and bells so that every movement and every sound "repeats" the blessing.

The bell in Buddhism and Feng Shui

In Buddhist temples the sound of a bell calls for attention and silence, marks the start of meditation and is believed to cleanse the space. In Feng Shui a metal bell belongs to the Metal element: its clear sound disperses stagnant energy and invites favourable events into the home. A bell with the mantra symbolically:

clears the space of negativity;
helps you tune into calm and meditation;
protects the home and its residents;
attracts luck and well-being;
reminds you of kindness and compassion.

Where to hang the bell

The bell is hung by the front door — so that it rings when the door opens and "greets" guests — as well as in a meditation or yoga room, a study, a shop or on a veranda. In Feng Shui metal bells suit the western and north-western parts of the home. Before meditation or at the start of the day you can ring the bell to "wake up" the space.

Care

Wipe the bell with a soft dry cloth and, if needed, a non-abrasive metal polish. Hang it on a strong hook suited to its weight.

As a gift

A bell with the "Om Mani Padme Hum" mantra is a meaningful gift for those who practise yoga and meditation or are interested in Buddhism and Eastern culture, and for a housewarming as a wish for peace and protection of the home.
