Altar Figurine “Bastet”

Bastet is the ancient Egyptian cat goddess, patroness of the hearth, joy, merriment and women. The figurine shows her with a cat's head in the solemn pose of a guardian of the home.

Meaning in tradition. The main centre of Bastet's worship was the city of Bubastis, where crowded festivals with music and dancing were held. The Egyptians regarded cats as her sacred animals and kept them at home as protectors against evil, and asked the goddess for family happiness, love and children.
