Altar Figurine “Skadi”, Large

Skadi is a giantess and the Norse goddess of winter, mountains, hunting and skiing. The figurine shows her as a stern warrior in winter garb.

Meaning in tradition. Skadi came to Asgard to avenge her slain father, but the gods offered her compensation and a husband, and she chose the sea god Njord. Yet she could not live by the sea, nor he in the mountains, so Skadi returned to her snowy halls. She was honoured as the patroness of hunters and of all who rely on their own strength.
