Bowl of Abundance Gold Ingot with Coins on Stand Large

The Bowl of Abundance Gold Ingot with Coins on Stand Large is a traditional Chinese Feng Shui money talisman. The golden bowl is shaped like an ancient yuanbao ingot with high curved edges and a raised centre, and its sides are covered with a relief of round Chinese coins with square holes. The bowl sits on an antique-bronze-coloured stand with ornament and lion-paw feet.

The large bowl is the biggest and most impressive in the series: about 6.8 × 4.7 × 5.3 cm in size and about 106 g in weight. It is chosen as the main money talisman of a home or office — for the wealth area, a reception desk, a cash desk or a manager's office.

The front of the stand reads 金玉满堂 (jin yu man tang) — "gold and jade fill the house". It is one of the most popular Chinese wishes for wealth and family prosperity.

What the bowl of abundance symbolises

Boat-shaped yuanbao ingots served as money in China for centuries, and their image is still the main symbol of wealth: such ingots are given and displayed at Chinese New Year. The bowl of abundance (聚宝盆, ju bao pen — "the bowl that gathers treasures") comes from a Chinese legend about a magic bowl in which everything placed inside multiplied. The coins on the sides strengthen the symbol: the round coin stands for Heaven and the square hole for Earth.

Together these symbols form a talisman that stands for:

attracting money and financial luck;
accumulating and preserving wealth;
prosperity of the family and business;
successful trade;
abundance in every area of life.

Where to place the bowl of abundance in Feng Shui

The main place for a money talisman is the south-eastern part of a home, room or office, which governs wealth in the Bagua map. The bowl is also placed:

on a desk or in a study;
by a shop's cash desk, on the sales floor or at a reception desk;
in the living room — facing into the room rather than towards the front door;
next to other wealth symbols — a money toad, coins or a tree of happiness.

Care

Wipe the bowl and stand with a soft dry cloth; dust in the relief is easily removed with a brush. Avoid abrasive or harsh cleaners so as not to damage the gold-coloured finish.

The bowl of abundance as a gift
