Altar Figurine “Hera”, Large

Hera is the queen of the gods of Olympus, wife of Zeus and the ancient Greek goddess of marriage, family and childbirth. The figurine shows her enthroned beside a lion, a sign of royal power.

Meaning in tradition. The Greeks honoured Hera as the keeper of lawful marriage and protector of married women. Her sacred symbols were the peacock, the pomegranate and the crown, and some of the oldest temples of Greece, including those on Samos and at Olympia, were dedicated to her.
