Who Guan Yin is

Guan Yin (觀音) is the bodhisattva of compassion and mercy, one of the most revered figures of Chinese Buddhism and the female form of Avalokiteshvara. She "hears the cries of the world" and comes to the aid of all who suffer. Guan Yin riding a dragon-fish (鳌, ao) is linked to legends of saving people in stormy waters: it symbolises protection on the road, overcoming hardship and success.

The figurine symbolically:

protects the home and family;
brings calm and peace;
helps overcome difficulties;
protects on journeys.

Where to place it

Guan Yin is placed in the living room facing the front door, on a home altar or in a quiet bright place at eye level or higher; she is not placed in a bathroom, kitchen or on the floor.

As a gift

Guan Yin is a gift for a mother, a close woman or someone going through a hard time, with a wish for peace and protection.
